Leveled Reader Libraries

Each level of the Cornerstone program includes two sets of leveled reader libraries.  The Penguin Reader Library is a collection of Penguin leveled readers that relate to the unit themes and provide opportunities for independent reading. Each of the Penguin Readers is adapted from popular tales and stories and uses controlled vocabulary that is appropriate for lower-proficiency readers.

The Dorling Kindersley (DK) Leveled Reader Library includes a collection of readers from the various series published by Dorling Kindersley. These content-based readers have a highly pictorial reading scheme, with lively illustrations and engaging stories to encourage reading.  These readers use simple sentences, limited vocabulary, word repetition, picture dictionary boxes and large type to support reluctant readers.
